Distinguished Talent Visas
The Distinguished Talent Visa is a permanent visa for applicants who are extremely talented and have
an international reputation in their area of expertise. The reputation may be in a profession, sport, academia or research, or in
the arts.
The applicant for a Distinguished Talent Visa needs to be nominated
by an Australian citizen or permanent resident
who also has a national reputation in relation to the same area of expertise as the applicant.
Visa Criteria
| Internationally Recognised Reputation |
The applicant must be internationally prominent in an area of a
profession, sport, the arts or academia and research.
The level of sustained achievement necessary to be classed as a 'distinguished talent' is 'the top echelons of their
field,' or 'extraordinary and remarkable abilities'. It is expected that an applicant's achievements have or would be
acclaimed as exceptional and outstanding in any country where the relevant field is practised.
|
| Asset to the Australian Community |
The applicant must be an asset to the Australian
community as a whole, by contributing economically, socially or culturally
or raising Australia sporting, artistic or academic standards internationally.
This is in contrast to the applicant being of benefit to only one business or region of Australia.
|
Employability |
The applicant should have no difficulty in obtaining employment,
or in becoming established independently in Australia.
|
|
Nomination |
The Nominator must attest to the applicant's achievement and standing in the area, and it must be proved
that the Nominator also has a reputation in the area, at the national level.
|
| Age |
Generally, applicants must be at least 18 years old or under 55 at the time the visa application
is made. However, if there would be exceptional benefit to the Australian community, an application
may be favourably considered from main applicants under 18 or over 55.
|
Applicants who have provided specialised assistance to the Australian Government in matters of
security are also eligible for this visa if they have been singled out by the Australian Government.
