FAQ - Critical Skills ListWhat is the Critical Skills List? The Critical Skills List is a new list introduced in January 2009. The list includes most of the MODL occupations, but excludes most of the trade occupations on the MODL and includes a few non-MODL occupations (eg Teachers, Urban & Regional Planners). Applications on the CSL receive a high level of priority and should be processed in a shorter timeframe than other applications. Do I receive extra points for being on the CSL?The CSL does not affect your points for General Skilled Migration, or any of the other eligibility requirements. It only affects processing time of applications. Is my occupation "off the list" now? No changes have been made to the MODL (Migration Occupations in Demand List) or SOL (Skilled Occupations List). So if you have applied or are planning on applying for skilled migration, you can proceed as there have been no changes to the points system or any of the other requirements for skilled migration. Are accountants on the CSL? Applicants nominating the occupation of accountant are on the CSL providing: - They have a score of at least 7 in all 4 components of the IELTS; or - They have completed a Professional Year in accounting in Australia. Note that even accountants who are native English speakers (eg with UK or US passports) must complete the IELTS and score at least 7 to be considered on the CSL. Are IT professionals on the CSL? Only IT professionals with an MODL assessment are on the CSL. This requires an MODL skills assessment through the Australian Computer Society and the ACS will require at least 12 months of work experience in the MODL specialization. Are trades on the CSL? There are only a few trades now on the CSL - hairdressers and cooks were excluded in the first version of the CSL in January 2009. In March 2009, most construction and manufacturing trades were removed. However, many trades are still on the state shortage lists which means that state nomination may be a good alternative. |
