HR professional seminars
The Australian Department of Immigration has introduced a number of changes to the 457 sponsorship program effective 14 September 2009. These are the most significant changes to the program in several years.
Businesses utilising the 457 program need to be aware of the following:
- The introduction of market rate salaries
- All 457 applicants must hold adequate insurance coverage before they can be granted their visas and must maintain this whilst in Australia on their visa

Stricter training requirements for approval as a business sponsor- on-the-job training will not be accepted as evidence of training unless it is highly structured
- Changed sponsorship obligations in relation to notifying the Department of Immigration of changes in circumstances, payment of return travel, maintenance of records and health costs
