Skilled Graduate 485 Visas

The Skilled - Graduate visa is an 18-month temporary visa available to international students who have completed 2 years of study in Australia. It is a good way to extend your stay in Australia to improve your chances of becoming eligible for a permanent or provisional skilled visa.

Many students refer to this as a "TR" visa because it gives temporary residence for a period of 18 months.

Visa Criteria

The main criteria for the Skilled - Graduate visa are as follows:
Age
The main applicant must be under 45 at the date of lodgment.
Occupation:
Evidence that a skills assessment has been lodged must be provided at lodgment, and the skills assessment must be positive before the visa can be granted.

If you held a student visa in subclass 572, 573 or 574 as of the 8th of February 2010, you can apply under the 485 Skilled Occupations List up to the 31st of December 2012.

Otherwise, you must have an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List

English:
The main applicant must have at least Competent English (6 minimum in IELTS or passport from native English speaking country)

Evidence of threshold English must be provided at date of lodgement

Study in Australia:
You must meet the 2 year study requirement and have completed qualifications within six months of applying for the visa.
Points Test:
The Skilled-Graduate visa is not points-tested.

Duration and Conditions

Results in an 18-month visa with full work and study rights in Australia. You must maintain private health insurance whilst on a skilled graduate visa.
