Job Market to Open for more International Students
There may be more opportunities in the future for International Students to enter the Australian job market following their studies.
Education Minister, Christopher Pine, has made a statement indicating that the government will work quickly to ensure that university graduates will have more career opportunities.
At the moment, Streamlined Visa Processes are limited to those with university qualifications. To provide more opportunities, the government would extend this process to training colleges.
This means that students who study in Australia at diploma level or lower may have greater work opportunities when they finish their qualification.
Concerns About The Changes
This is positive news for many international students in Australia, however it has been met with some concern due to past instances of people "rorting" the system.
In the past, it was much easier for those who received tertiary qualifications in Australia to get permanent residency. As a result, there was an influx of students coming to Australia to study irrelevant, lower ended diplomas. This also led to the unfortunate exploitation of some private colleges of international students.
The Education Minister has advised that any further changes will be carefully planned to ensure no further issues like the above happen in the future.
When will the changes happen?
The Minister has only made a statement about the proposed changes to options for International Students in Australia.
