Are you interested in migrating to Australia?

If you are under 50 and are a qualified professional or tradesperson, you may be eligible for points-tested migration to Australia.

This app allows you to estimate your score in the Skilled Migration Points Test. You can download the app from the App Store points test homepage

It takes into account your age, qualifications, work experience, and other relevant factors. It is easy to use and takes only five minutes to do.

It has been produced by Acacia Immigration, one of Australia's leading immigration firms with over 10 years of experience.

This test applies to most points tested applications lodged on or after 1 July 2010.

 

Visa Type


Visa Type
There are three choices here:

Independent

This is a permanent visa which does not require sponsorship. You must pass skills assessment in an occupation on the Independent and Family Sponsored Occupations List.

Nominated (Permanent Resident)

This is a permanent visa which requires sponsorship by a State or Territory Government. You must pass skills assessment in an occupation on the State/Territory Nominated Occupations List.

Regional Sponsored (Temporary)

This is a 3-year provisional visa. You can be sponsored by a relative living in a Designated Area, or a State or Territory Government.

If sponsored by a state or territory government, you must pass skills assessment in an occupation on the State/Territory Nominated Occupations List . Otherwise, you must pass skills assessment in an occupation on the Independent and Family Sponsored Occupations List.

You must live and work in a regional area for 2 years to qualify for permanent residence.

 

Age


Age
You can score points based on your age at the date the application is lodged. It does not matter if you change age category during processing of the application - it is your age at the date of application which is critical.
 

English


English language ability
There are 3 levels of English which may be relevant in applying for Skilled Migration:

Competent English

This is the basic level of English required to make an application for Skilled Migration. You would need to obtain a score of at least 6 in each of the 4 components of the IELTS Test of English or have a passport from the UK, USA, Ireland, Canada or New Zealand.

Proficient English

This would require you to score 7 or more in each of the 4 components of the IELTS, or a B Pass in the Occupational English Test (OET). Even if you have a passport from the UK, USA, Ireland, Canada or New Zealand, you would need to complete one of the above English tests to score points for Proficient English.

Superior English

You would need to score at least 8 in each of the 4 components of English to obtain points for Superior English.
 

Australian Qualifications

You must have completed a qualification in Australia taking at least 2 years of study in Australia to obtain points for this part. Only degree, diploma or trade qualifications would count for points here.
 

Regional Study


Regional Study
You can obtain a further 5 points if you studied in a regional or low population growth area of Australia for 2 years.

The whole of Australia excluding the following areas are not considered regional areas for these purposes:

  • Sydney, Newcastle, the NSW Central Coast and Wollongong
  • the Greater Brisbane area and the Gold Coast
  • the Melbourne Metropolitan area
  • Perth and surrounding areas
 

Recent Work Experience


Recent Work Experience
If you have not studied in Australia for two years, you must show that you meet the "recent work experience requirement". You must have worked for at least 12 of the last 24 months in skilled employment.
 

Professional Year


Professional Year
It is possible for international students who have completed two years of studies in Australia to undergo a Professional Year. This is only possible if you have graduated in accounting, engineering or IT.
 

Qualifications


Qualifications
You can obtain points based on your highest level of qualification. The highest points are awarded for a PhD with 20 points, 15 for a Bachelor level qualification and 10 for trade or diploma-level qualifications. You cannot claim points for more than one qualification - only your highest qualification counts.
 

Australian Work


Australian Work Experience
You can obtain points for working in Australia in your occupation, or closely related skilled occupation. You need to have had a valid Australian visa with work rights for this employment to count for points. The work experience must be for at least 20 hours per week.
 

Overseas Work


Overseas Work Experience
You can also obtain points for working overseas in your occupation or closely related skilled occupation. It is possible to combine points for working in Australia and overseas, up to a maximum of 20 points.
 

Partner Skills


Partner skills
A partner can include a spouse, or a defacto partner who you have lived with for the last 12 months. It is possible to count points from a same-sex partner also.

Your partner would need to:

  • Pass skills assessment in a skilled occupation
  • Show that they have at least competent English
  • Be aged under 50 at time of application
  • Have either recent work experience or to have recently completed a qualification taking at least 2 years of study in Australia
 

Language Skills


Community Language Skills
You can obtain points if you have passed the NAATI accreditation exam as a paraprofessional translator or interpreter.
