May 2019 SkillSelect Update

Disappointing results

The 2018/2019 financial year is likely to end on a whimper rather than a bang, following the release of the May SkillSelect invitation round results. Again, only a tiny 100 subclass 189 visa invitations were sent, along with the now expected maximum of 10 Subclass 489 family sponsored invitations.

The pro-rata occupations are now sitting at 71% of their quota ceiling, so either the program will not fill or we will have a big month in June. We expect the former - but are hoping for the latter.

Point scores for non-pro rata occupations has stayed the same:

The points score for non-pro rata 189 has remained at 80 points, with just over a month's waiting time.

Points score for the 489 Family Sponsored visa has increased:

Applicants now require a point score of 85, but will only wait one month for an invitation.

Pro-rata occupations:

Pro-rata occupations are classified as those for which there is more demand for places than there are places available. These occupations usually have a point score higher than the non-pro rata occupations.

9 May 2019 Invitation Rounds scores for pro-rata occupations are:

Our Advice

At this stage we do not believe there will be any relief in the June SkillSelect round, so we suggest that applicants hold tight until the quotas reopen in full on 1 July.

For those looking to lodge an EOI in the near future, or for those who want to see if they are able to obtain any further points, we suggest speaking with a Migration Agent who can thoroughly assess your case and provide professional advice.
