August SkillSelect Shocker!

The August SkillSelect round results are out, and they are a bit of a shock! Only
100 (yes, one hundred) subclass 189 visa invitations were sent out, with the vast majority of invites sent to those on 85 points. This is a massive 90% decrease in invitations for this round, and is likely to be disappointing news to a number of hopeful migrants.
In slightly better news, the Subclass 489 Skilled Regional (Provisional) family sponsored invitations remained at
100, taking into account the upcoming visa closure. The lowest points required for applicants was 80 for an EOI lodged back in January 2019.
Pro-rata occupations:
Pro-rata occupations are classified as those for which there is more demand for places than there are places available.

Our Advice
If obtaining additional points is not possible, applicants may need to consider going to a regional area once the new Subclass 491 Skilled Regional visas open in November.
State sponsorship for a 190 visa may be the best option for applicants already living and working in Australia. Only 65 points are required, though the individual States and Territories can have additional eligibility requirements such as higher English language skills or additional work experience.
As always, we encourage applicants to seek professional advice on your options. A Migration Agent can thoroughly assess your case and explore your visa options, so you are not left waiting for an invitation that is unlikely to come.
